Catalyst LTM Church

“A Church for the Next Generation!”

Catalyst
A scientific term which means “a substance that causes change without itself being affected.”

We chose this name because we believe that Christians are to be agents of change in whatever context they find themselves in – with friends, with family, at work, at school, etc!

LTM stands for Love, Truth, and Movement! These are the core values of Catalyst Church as well as our process of discipleship! Basically, if you’re growing in these areas consistently as a follower of Christ, then we feel you’re properly growing as a Christian!

As followers of Christ, our two most important duties of all are 1) to love God and 2) to love others.

And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” - Mark 12:28-31

A fundamental part of the Christian walk is to learn more about God as He is revealed in His Word – through a focused study of the Bible.

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” - John 8:31-32

Jesus commands his disciples to be people of action, not complacency and apathy. This action occurs in at least two main directions: evangelism and service.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:18-20

Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” - Matthew 20:25-28

The Last Catalyst Sunday at Grace Presbyterian

Hello everyone. I know that we haven't updated the website in a very long time, so here is the big breakdown of what has been happening at Catalyst LTM:

  • Goodbye Grace Pres. Hello Blue Box! Starting August 1st, we will now be having services at Kreativ Apparel, a.k.a. "The Blue Box" as many have come to know it. Services on Sunday will still be at 5pm. A note on parking: do NOT park in Ted's Burgers' parking lot! You will get towed! Park either in the back or try and find street parking. Here's the new address:

    Carson, CA 90745
  • Carson Care Project is this saturday, July 31st! Mark your calendars because we will be hitting up the neighborhood behind Kreativ. From the flyer turnout on 6/24 it looks like a neighborhood with great people and an ample opportunity to serve.
  • S.P.I.T. (Spoken Poetry Igniting Truth) night is back! Details to follow in another post.
  • Message podcasts are now available! Eventually when we get the new system up and running we'll have a way to subscribe to podcasts, but for now we have recordings dating back to the middle of June with regular updates every week. This is a great way to delve into the Word and gain some spiritual encouragement for your walk with God while... walking... or just on the go!
  • Say hello to the elder board. We finally had a chance to establish the elder board, which includes Pastor Dave Sormillon, Lutz Abella, and Chris McDougall. They are not leaders so much as they are servants, and they are happy to serve both God and YOU in any way that they can.

Catalyst website

Welcome to the interweb! Catalyst finally has a website... er... web page! It's small for now, but think of it as a slowly evolving entity. In fact, changes may be happening as we speak. Scary, eh?

For now you can read a little bit about us and see what most of the launch team is up to via their twitter posts. We'll also be updating the website with past and future events, so check regularly!

Does God Exist? Catalyst attends a debate

4/4/2009
Does God Exist? flyer

Catalyst attended a very important debate recently regarding one of life's simple, yet seemingly unanswerable questions, "Does God exist?" The debate took place at Biola University in La Mirada at 7pm, and was between renown authors Christopher Hitchens and Dr. William Lane Craig. Hitchens, a devoted atheist and author of the book God is Not Great, obviously took the "God does not exist" approach while Craig laid out the argument for God's existence.

While we urge you to check out the debate and decide for yourself who had the better argument, all of us in the Crew felt that Craig "pwned him." (Actual quote!)

Carson Care Project Launch

4/4/2009
Carson Care Project Crew

The Carson Care Project kicked off on Saturday, April 4 at 9am. People from more than five churches woke up early in the morning with the energy to serve the community and show God's love to Carson. While we didn't get to do many chores this week, we were met with much appreciation and love from our neighbors who will make sure to save us some chores for next time.

We'll be going out again soon, so look for all the people wearing green shirts and say, "Hello!"

UPDATE: Our friend Justin Lacanilao of EL Church in Pasadena put up some videos on his blog Events for Christ. Make sure to check it out!

UPDATE No. Dos: We put up some of our own videos as well. See below
